Caraça Sanctuary
An unique santuaty for the ones who love history, wildlife and bird watching. Here you will find the unique Caraça Natural Reserve with the 18th century Sanctuary and School. Besides the historical attractions, the Caraça is a place surrounded by natural wonders. Rivers, mountains and waterfalls are everywhere. The place is an intersection area of two great ecosystems. The Cerrado, with its rich flora, and the Atlantic Forest with its unique fauna and lush vegetation frame the landscape. This is the reason Caraça is such a great place for bird watching. Species from both ecosystem live in the area. The main attraction in Caraça is the “Meet and Feed the Wolves”. The Caraça priests have fed the manned wolves for years, so then they come to the Sanctuary at night to eat.
Caratinga Biological Station
Near the little village of Ipanema is the Caratinga Biological Station, a hidden treasure for wildlife lovers. The place is very unknown and we will keep it this way. Once an old farm, its owners decided to create a private preservation area. With large area of a rare preserved Atlantic Forest , this is the place for the wildlife and birdwatch lovers. The Caratinga Biological Station is a research camp for primates, many species lives here including the largest in South America, the Mono Carvoeiro. Also a very wide variety of endemic species of birds and animals can be observed.
