Day 1: Campo Grande - Fazenda Barranco Alto
Arrival at the airport of Campo Grande, where assistance with name board is waiting for you. Ground transfer in 4x4 vehicle straight trough the Pantanal (06 hrs) or air transfer in a small air plane, Cessna 206 // 210 or a Piper Arrow for an unforgettable flight of approximately 50 minutes. After crossing the mountains, the pilot will descend into the Pantanal plain, flying low at only 600 feet over the wetlands. This will give you a good overview of the landscape: forested islands, lagoons, lakes, oxbows, channels and the scattered ranchsteads built on the highest grounds to avoid the annual flooding. From the airplane one can spot marsh deers, capybaras, pekaris and bigger flocks of birds. Arriving at Fazenda Barranco Alto you will be welcomed by your hosts. After checking-in you will be invited to go for a short walk around the guest house, looking out for the many birds that gather on the papaya, mango, orange and other fruit trees of the backyard. Armed with binoculars and camera you will be going out after lunch on a 4x4 wheel jeep which will take you slowly to the wild and lonely corners of the ranch. A long and silent walk make a good approach of the birds possible, so that you can take pictures and watch carefully all details of these smaller or bigger treasures of nature. The programs and activities that are offer by the fazenda are guided by Portuguese, English, German, French and Spanish guides. The program will be adapted to suit the particular desires of each guest. Some of the possible actvities are; photosafari, exploring the meanders of the rio Negro by silent boats and kayaks, day and night walks on horses, boats and by foot, animal spotting by night with searchlights, river exploration and swimming. Dinner and overnight at Fazenda Barranco Alto. (D)
