Pousada Refúgio da Ilha is located just 230 km from Campo Grande on a farm adapted for eco-tourism, surrounded by bays and the Rio Salobra. During the wet season the Rio Salobra (with a lengt of 80 km.) divides itself in two tributaries, forming an island of more than 4000 ha. This is Refúgio da Ilha, an extensive area of ecological preservation, located in the ecosystem of the Rio Salobra, together with the mountainrange of the National Park of Bodoquena.
Concerned with conservation of the environment and with security and quality of attention to their guests, the pousada caters for only a limited number of visitors, a fact which creates an excellent alternative for those wanting to escape the stress of conventional mass tourism and sample the calm scenery and customs of the Pantanal.
There are 8 comfortable en-suite bedrooms with air conditioning and a natural alarm call courtesy of the dawn chorus provided by a whole array of birds of different sizes and colours. There are two bars, a small library, a riverside summerhouse for lunchtime barbecues, a jetty, an observation deck and of course a natural swimming pool. The menu is varied and always offers delicious regional dishes, including vegetarian. Both the hosts, who live on the premises, and their staff, ensure that their guests are made to feel at home with a warm welcome!
